Our chefs visit Amlapura morning market every day to gather the produce for our menu. Help carry the shopping! Sample some produce and absorb some real Balinese action in the hustle and bustle of the market.
Return to Bali Asli and learn how to prepare traditional flower offerings, “canang” before cooking your lunch using traditional equipment and techniques.

A day in the village
Step through the looking glass
Our trekking guide will take you “through the looking glass” up into the village of Pangi, where you will have the opportunity to peak into the daily life of the Balinese. As well as enjoying stunning views over rice fields, ocean and volcanoes.
Have morning tea and learn about the ancient art of the Balinese “Aksara” script in the village cultural learning centre and Lontar museum, before wandering through the rice fields back to Bali Asli for a traditional Megibung lunch.

The Spirits of Bali
Encounter the Balinese spirits up close and personal, In a surprisingly different way.
Learn how to make some of Bali Asli’s famous cocktails! Bali Asli only uses naturally fermented and locally distilled alcohol on our drinks menu. Some we make at Bali Asli and some we source from our extended family in the villages near by.
We will make three of our most popular cocktails or non-alcoholic drinks if you prefer.
Which you can then sip over looking the view. Just let the team know if you would like to stay longer and have lunch before you go.

Jamu and other magical potions
This Culinary encounter will ignite your passion for natural medicines.
We will introduce you to many of the plants and spices that the Balinese forage for to make their traditional potions. feel, sniff and taste these ingredients, as you discover their medicinal as well as magical qualities. together we will create a selection of “Jamu” or medicinal potions to sample.
Then, enjoy the magnificent view with some home-fermented fruit ciders, juices and beers. And perhaps stay for lunch.

Mantra dance and Balinese stories
Immerse your self in some cultural learning. Walk through the villages to the Dukuh Lontar cultural learning centre, where you can learn how to etch into traditional palm leaves using Balinese ancient Script, “Aksara”whilst listening to the “Geguritan” story songs from long ago.
Have some fun getting dressed up and learning some of the traditional dance moves with the young village dancers.
We will serve you our home roasted Balinese coffee or Indonesian tea, and Karangasem style sweet treats during your cultural encounter. Before walking back to Bali Asli. Maybe continue your day of cultural immersion and join our staff to the night market for dinner with the locals!

BALINESE CULINARY TOURS
A full day of adventure riding in interesting vehicles.
Bali Asli convertible V.W. tours of Karangasem
A full day of exploration! Relax and enjoy the ride as you sit in the back of your chauffeur driven vintage Volkswagen safari convertible with the top down !
We will start the tour at the King’s Palace of Amlapura.
Then we will drive through the streets of Karangasem to visit Dukuh village Cultural museum and cultural learning centre, learn the ancient art of etching on dried Palm leaves “Lontar” when you make your own to take home. Sip on freshly brewed Balinese kopi and sample a Balinese morning tea..
Your next stop is just round the corner to an incense maker, where you will see how these beautiful aromatic sticks are made by hand using the natural aroma of Cinnamon, sandalwood, cloves and many more.
Jump back into your car, and ride to the other side of the valley, to Tirtagangga, the Royal swimming gardens, wander around the pools of crystal clear water and lap up the culture.
After a leisurely cruise down to the coast, past villages and rice fields, is Taman Ujung water palace, where the Royal family housed their esteemed guests and family in times of war.
After all this exploring you would have worked up an appetite! We will head back to Bali Asli for a Balinese lunch.

An early bird catches the sun!
Yes a super early start to the day at 4.00am, but so worth it. We will pick you up from your hotel in East Bali with our convertible four wheel drive. Hold onto your hats it climbs the steep road to the lookout on the East wing of Lempuyang mountain.
Your guide will prepare your breakfast as you catch your breath watching the magnificent view out to the sparkling sun-kissed sea, with Renjani Volcano on Lombok silhouetted by the rising sun.
After sun rise jump back in the car and head to Amed for a dip under the crystal clear waters for some snorkelling. The day will finish at Bali Asli with a Traditional Balinese Megibung feast.

HIKING, BIKING & WALKING CULINARY ADVENTURES
Culinary Street Food Adventures of Amlapura
Eat dinner with the locals when you sample the delicacies from the street stalls and night markets in Amlapura town. A food enthusiast’s dream.
Start your evening adventure at Bali Asli, with a home-made cider and local snacks as on our balcony as the sun sets behind Mount Agung.
Then adventure down to wander through the street vendors in the lively culinary scene of Amlapura town, that is both diverse and confrontingly fascinating.
Our adventure is carefully planned to give you an authentic taste of Eastern Balinese local fare, in a safe environment, but still eating and drinking directly from the street stalls.

The holy hike of the East
So much more than just a hike through the jungle.
Lempuyang temple, meaning the highest lantern. is one of the highest and sacred temples in Bali. It sits atop Belibis mountain 1,058 meters above sea level. It is a 2.5 hours hike to the temple at the top.
This spiritual journey will wind through misty ancient pandan forests, vanilla vines, native orchids, along a combination of grassy paths lined with lemon grass and steep rocky tracks. Once you reach the summit you are rewarded with breath taking views over looking the Karangasem valley to the ocean and across to mighty Mount Agung Bali’s famous volcano.
After a morning coffee and some jajan cakes, you will accompany your guide into the temple where the priest will bless you with holy water collected from the insides of the bamboo growing near the temple.
Your decent will be via the 1700 steps! passing many other sacred temples and places of spiritual importance. We will pick you up and the bottom and drive 15 minutes to Bali Asli for a well earned megibung lunch, served in the style of the Royal family of Karangasem.

Biking from the mountain to white sand and virgin beaches
Our Biking guide, Pak Mudi will drive you up into the small villages in the foot hills of Mount Agung, where you will mount your mountain bikes and glide (mostly down hill) over a combination of dirt tracks, bike trails and seal roads. You will enjoy breath taking vistas, as you ride around rice fields, through snake fruit forests, small towns all the way to White sand beach, where you can cool off in the crystal clear ocean. Then enjoy lunch on the beach prepared by the local beach warungs.
